Beach Bag… in February

Because that’s how I roll. Always with the wrong crafts in the wrong season. At least this instance isn’t as bad as when I was knitting a scarf sitting with my feet in the pool in a swimsuit in July. Yikes.

I’ve always wanted to crochet a net bag- and I finally did. Although there are about a million free patterns out there for this style bag, I wasn’t satisfied with any of them and decided to combine three different patterns. One pattern for the base, one for the net section, and one for the handles. And there were a lot of parts I just had to make up as I went along.

I could see using this bag for library runs, beach trips, and farmer’s markets in summer. This one was made as a gift, but I might just have to make one for myself next :)

I love how the net stitch pattern stretches to fit whatever you put in the bag. It was made by chaining 6 and then slip stitching in the spaces made by previous chain 6’s. The strap is very sturdy since I made it using the waistcoat stitch - a new favorite of mine.

Remarkably, I made this bag within just a few weeks. I know, very surprising for such a slow crafter as myself.

I used Lily Sugar n’ Cream 100% cotton, worsted weight yarn. It’s cheap, washes easy, and is super durable. The only downside is that is splits really easy when you are crocheting, but I did get used to it after while.
