A Simple Little Book Sleeve

I made this book sleeve a couple of months ago and just now looked through my photos and remembered I never blogged it. It was made as a gift for a friend who loves to read and who also saw this fabric in my room and told me that she loved it.

The cotton fabric gives off great vintage vibes with both the colors and the print. I paired it with a cute little pearl button I found in my stash. In theory this would be a fast and easy project, but I ended up making two book sleeves because somehow my first one ended up way too small and weirdly proportioned. My second go round of math ended up much better.

There’s a million different ways of closure for a book sleeve but for this fast, $0 budget item I went with a little bit of elastic thread and a button. Not the most elegant, but it does do the job. I forgot about the elastic until the very end of the project so I ended up just making a little patch to sew over the elastic thread, oops.

And my favorite little detail was the needle turn applique heart I added to the inside. I had been thinking about trying to add a label to the sleeve but when I thought of a heart patch made of heart fabric I knew I had to go with that idea.
